在這本《湖濱奇案》中,有一段女主角跳脫衣舞的描述:
季振東,康美君譯本(臉譜):
她雙目低垂,可她擺動的柔軟如水的肢體卻艷麗逼人,激情迸發,像一團熊熊燃燒的火焰。驟然間,她那白綢衣衫從肩頭滑落,露出了豐滿圓潤的乳峰。...一聲震耳的鑼鳴,管弦絲竹猛然中斷,舞姬的飛旋也嘎然而止;足間豎立,兩臂高舉,活脫脫像一尊美輪美奐的玉雕仙女,唯見她那酥胸仍在波動起伏。
對照原文,確有其事:
Her impressive, slightly haughty face with the downcast eyes stressed by contrast the voluptuous writhing of her lithe body that appeared to personify the flame of burning passion. The robe fell away, exposing her perfectly rounded naked breasts....Suddenly there was a deafening clash of the gong and the music ceased abruptly. The dancer stood still, high on her toes, her arms rasied above her head, still as a stone statue. One only sae the heaving of her naked breasts. (P31-32)
但在陳胡翻譯的《湖濱案》中,好幾段描述舞姿的段落濃縮成一小段,而且絕對沒有脫衣服:
杏花笑顏溶漾,如三春桃李,舞態自若,如風中柔條。漸漸額絲汗潤,蟬鬢微濕,凝脂裡透出紅霞來。...杏花如狂風急雨一般旋轉跳騰,似一團霓霞閃爍明滅,一簇仙葩搖曳舒發。忽聽得一聲中天鶴唳,音樂嘎然而止。杏花笑吟吟向眾人叩謝。
我對中國古代是否有這種脫衣舞並沒有研究,只是就這段看來,臉譜版本的譯者相當忠實,還會把石像譯成更有美感的玉雕;而陳胡譯本或許覺得在官爺面前跳脫衣舞不倫不類,或因譯本出版時間較早(1982年),不敢譯出脫衣細節,總之是重寫了這段,成了老少咸宜的淨化版。
